On February 24, 2022, Matthew Smith woke up to the shocking news that Russia had invaded Ukraine, instantly upending his peaceful life in Kyiv. At the time, he was teaching English and math at the French International School, where he had been working since 2019.
Matthew knows what it’s like to live in a war-torn country and lose nearly everything. He had to flee along with his wife, Helena, facing the uncertainty of a world turned upside down.
