Rev. Dr. Bob Fuller continues on the Make Us One Sermon Series, as we study the "High Preistly Prayer" that Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before His crucifixion - and relayed in the Gospel of John, chapter 17.
Jesus prayed that people would continue His mission through His disciples, those the Lord called to be leaders. He was hyper-focused on this group because they were the people God gave Jesus to fulfill His mission.
God gave Moses His Name: I AM
He gave that name so that all would know He was the true God.
Jesus "manifested" the Name I AM to the chosen few that God sent to Jesus.
Jesus came to SHOW us who God is. Jesus is a real and present PROOF of God, so the world may be saved by knowing and believing in Him.
John wanted others to know that Jesus is the word of God made Flesh. Jesus is the expressed will of God - it is what God wants us to know about Himself expressed through Jesus.
We see Jesus manifesting God through love, compassion, and affection through washing people's feet. He showed us that He's not too proud to get down on his knees and wash the feet of sinners, lepers, prostitutes, and all. He lived among us to show us that God created the universe and everything in it, but that he also has love for you.
If you want to know how God thinks and how God feels, just listen to Jesus' words. The power, authority, all He values and love given all come from God.
Jesus invests time among God's people, He prayed with them so they knew how to pray, He comforted them so they know how to comfort, He died for them so they would be strong enough to die for others.
They received and believed the words He embodied and the words He taught.
