Glory and More Glory
John 17:1-5

Rev. Dr. Bob Fuller continues on the Make Us One Sermon Series, as we study the "High Preistly Prayer" that Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before His crucifixion - and relayed in the Gospel of John, chapter 17.
Jesus prayed for Himself that He may complete His mission regardless of personal devastation and ultimate death. He prayed for His disciples to be empowered and carry on His mission, and He prayed for the Future Church - those who would hear, share, know and tell the love and truth of God's grace poured THROUGH Him.
- But for WHAT did Jesus pray?
- Unity
- Glory
- What is Glory? - the awe-inspiring, overwhelming, life-changing Beauty of God
- Jesus prayed - "Show the World WHO I REALLY AM, so that they may see WHO YOU REALLY ARE."
- The TRANSFIGURATION - Jesus takes Peter, James and John to a high mountain and transformed before them, an event orchestrated by God to show them WHO JESUS REALLY IS.
- Jesus' eponymous moniker as SON OF MAN shows exalted and prophetic meanings, but also demonstrates HUMILITY.
-
Jesus didn’t want the world to follow Him in his GLORY as the son of God, until they had seen the Son of Man surrender to God in His HUMILITY - He was born in a stable, not in a palace. He was a carpenter, not a nobleman.
- We must PROCLAIM the glory and power of the Son of God, but WORSHIP the humility and courage of the Son of Man.
-
Jesus prayed, “4 I glorified you on earth,” He demonstrated God’s love with his own voice and hands, his own words and wisdom, with his own hunger and fatigue, and finally blood and tears.
-
He wanted them to see the full explosion of his glory through the RESURRECTION.
-
Jesus is praying for God to glorify Him for the Sake of our SALVATION
-
Eternal Life is KNOWING WHAT GOD HAS DONE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST!
If you believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord and you declare with your mouth that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
