End-of-Year Giving
As the year ends, many are starting to think about year-end charitable giving. We are here to ensure your gift is received in plenty of time to include in the current tax year.
If you are mailing your gift, be aware that it needs to be postmarked by December 31st to be counted in the current tax year. Because December 31st falls on a Sunday, The post office will be closed and the postal drop boxes will not be collected or postmarked until after the start of the new year.
If you are planning to send a gift from a retirement account, stock, or mutual fund, please remember that these gifts take extra time and effort to process. Outside of the holiday season, stock gifts can take a few days to complete and mutual funds can take up to a month to process. These types of gifts given in the last week of the month could miss the end-of-year deadline for contribution credit because the holidays may slow broker processing times.
Due to office closures during the holidays, we request that you begin processing these gifts prior to December 15, 2023, and recommend an even earlier date if you are giving shares of a mutual fund, as they take much longer to complete the transfer. Please check with your broker as many take leave for the holidays and will not be available.
We also ask that you notify the finance office if you are planning on giving one of these types of gifts so that we can make sure your gift is applied to the appropriate account and processed in a timely manner. You may also need extra information from the finance office to complete these transactions—and we are here to help! Please see the information below:
