THE SEA OF GALILEE
The Sea of Galilee is 13 miles long, 8 miles wide at its northern end, 100–150 feet deep, 33 miles in circumference, and almost 700 feet below sea level. In the Bible it is called the Sea of Chinneroth/Kinnereth (Num. 34:11; Deut. 3:17; Josh. 13:27; 19:35), the Lake of Gennesaret (Luke 5:1), the Sea of Tiberias (John 21:1), and the Sea of Galilee (Matt. 4:18; 15:29; Mark 1:16; 7:31; John 6:1).
