$10K+ Scholarship Funds Awarded

Living out the FPC mission of making Jesus visible beyond the church walls, a little more than $10K was awarded to five college students this coming academic year.  Managed through the San Antonio Area Foundation, the Scholarship Committee received 23 inquiries, 17 applications and 14 completed packets received by the deadline of March 31.  This is up from just 5 the previous year!

It is through the fore thought and generosity of the Mr. and Mrs. Gus T. Jones Scholarship Fund and the Bob and Jackie Campbell Scholarship Fund that these scholarships were made possible.

Here is a snapshot of the recipients that were blessed by these scholarships:

  • Maria is Junior at St. Edward’s University majoring in Behavioral Neurosciences
  • Hannah is a Senior at St. Edward’s University majoring in Global Studies
  • Richard is a Freshman at UT Arlington majoring in Broadcasting
  • Megan is a Junior at the University of Oklahoma majoring in Elementary Education
  • Tyler is a Freshman at UT San Antonio majoring in Architecture

The Scholarship Committee would like to share a thank you message from one of the recipients:

“Good afternoon! I just saw that I received the Mr. & Mrs. Gus T. Jones Scholarship and I am SO, SO grateful! I have recently started a full time job to earn money for school for this upcoming year and this scholarship couldn’t have been more of a blessing. You cannot imagine the relief that this takes off of my shoulders. Of course I am still going to continue working because I do still need that money for my tuition but this helps with the gap. 🙂 Unfortunately, tuition rises 6% a year at St. Edward’s and so does housing and some of the additional fees so it feels like we can never catch a break! But I do thank you for this and of course everyone else on this scholarship committee, especially the memory of Mr. & Mrs. Gus T. Jones.”
