Choral Music Opportunity

We’re thrilled you’ve decided to learn more about our choral singing experience!

First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio is a church that celebrates the love of Christ with the music of great composers sung in an historic setting. The Sanctuary Choir is a diverse and highly skilled group of singers, both amateur and professional, that offer their time and talents each week to prepare great choral masterpieces for worship. Accompanied by pipe organ in an inspiring worship space, we seek to draw closer to God with the shared experience of choral music.

Here are some answers to basic questions you might have as you consider exploring this experience –

• What type of musical background should I have?

Since we sing each week, performing challenging choral pieces, our members need the ability to read music notation (pitch and rhythm) in either the treble or bass clef. Most of our members have previous experience singing in church, high school, or college choral groups, with some prior vocal training or knowledge of their own voice.

• Is there an audition?

We generally have you visit one of our Wednesday rehearsals first to explore the singing experience in our context.   We would follow-up with you after that, answering any questions you might have. Sometimes it is helpful to have you sing privately for the director to determine placement within the choir or fit in terms of your ability and background.

• When do you rehearse and how often do you sing?

We rehearse each Wednesday night at 7 pm and sing most Sundays in the year. Perfect attendance is not required as many of our members are working professionals with occasional family and travel responsibilities.

• How do I find out more or schedule a time to attend a rehearsal?

Please feel free to email us to learn more about singing in the choir at FPC.
