April 14, 2014
The Session of First Presbyterian Church voted on April 14, 2014 to accept and approve the report from the Church Relations Committee, and to distribute it to the congregation with the clarifying statement, which follows. This confirms that the Session of First Presbyterian Church is not initiating any process to begin leaving our current denomination, the PC(USA), at this time. Please read the following documents, distributed by your Session, so that you may keep abreast of these complicated issues.

While we remain within the PC(USA) at this time, we are distinct from the PC(USA) in that we reaffirm our church’s longstanding commitment to the lordship of Jesus Christ and the authority of the Scriptures. We also reaffirm our membership in The Fellowship of Presbyterians, which provides us an opportunity to interact with like-minded congregations as ww—and they—seek to live within its essential tenets of faith. And, we strongly encourage our members’ full participation in The Fellowship of Presbyterians’ activities. Going forward, the Session intends to give increased scrutiny to denominational funding that does not align with our theological convictions.
